Brüel Acoustics have developed a special Speaking
Head.
Loudspeaker with Human Head and Body Directivity
Speaking Head 45BB (Artificial Talker 45BB).
There is a need for a
loudspeaker which can radiate sounds like human speech, artificial speech
signals, human songs and short tone burst with a directivity pattern like a
human being.
The applications are as
follows:
1) To confirm results from raytracing investigations
of big halls, auditories, theatres a "speaking head" is needed.
2) By testing
and demonstrating a complete address system an artificial "speaking person"
should be used as primary source.
3) For investigating the acoustic
performance of a schoolroom, auditories or offices with a single burst a sound
source with correct directivity should be used.
4) At speech laboratories and
at universities a constant speaking device is needed.
5) An artificial talker
should be able to change level in 10 dB step covering the human voice from
whispering to load talking.
6) Sound and level change should be controlled by
radio up to 200 m distance.
7) An artificial talker will be useful by testing
simultaneaus translation systems.
8) The development laboratories in the car
and airplane industries and coach builders will find a reliable artificial
talker.
In order to fulfill the need from a series of customers spread over
many branches Brüel Acoustics have developed the "Artifical Talker" 45BB.
The instrument is radio controlled with five levels, low distortion, correct
directivity pattern (see fig.), light weight, switch can be connected to DC
player, taperecorder, PC and other controlled signals.
